MARK TOBIN
My first encounter with leather work was in 1973, at 13 years old working for a mate’s family on their dairy farm. They were stud stock producers and presented their cattle in shows and exhibitions, led by the halters we crafted. There was just something about the feel, the smell, and the look of leather that I was drawn to and made leather working an enjoyable experience for me. To make something from leather that was needed and useful meant that it was never a chore.
I then attended Agricultural College, where I continued to practice my leather craft, learning from my mates making anything that we needed and sold. Since then, I’ve worn many hats as a paramedic, ringer, cattle producer and property owner, where I’ve made and repaired tack where needed.
After finishing my professional career as a paramedic, Ag producer and selling our property, I can now dedicate time and effort to enjoying leather craft. I’ve attended courses in Australia and the United States to learn and continue the ever-evolving skills of leather making. I plan to continue to perfect the craft in order to curate the tack and leather goods my customers require.
